Open Door Theater, Sargent Memorial Library, Think Outside the Vox, and Acton-Boxborough United Way invite you to the third Ask Me event to meet and talk with presenters that may be different from you. This afternoon session is designed specifically for families with children.
Registration is required for this event.
At the Ask Me Fair, participants are invited to ask questions, listen to, and converse with presenters from a wide range of diverse backgrounds, and who are happy to share their stories and experiences. We invite everyone to come with an open heart and an open mind to listen, learn, and make connections. The purpose of the event is that everyone has a story to tell, and there is value in sharing and listening. Through questions and answers, we can build understanding, dispel myths and stereotypes, and move towards a community that is truly inclusive. We hope that through thoughtful questions and answers, we can make the unfamiliar more known; and that we can come together, from different backgrounds, to educate, learn from, and appreciate each other.
Format: Participants will have the opportunity to meet four or five presenters from different backgrounds and of different identities. After a brief self-introduction of all the guest presenters, the presenters will move to different areas and the attendees will rotate through in small groups. Each group will have up to 15 minutes with each presenter. We encourage the participants to use this time to respectfully ask any questions they may have of the presenter’s thoughts and experiences that are related to their personal identity. Event will be held on the Sargent Memorial Library lawn.
Special note: ASL Interpreters, materials in braille, and an audio describer will be provided at the event.
Event Ground Rules:
- Participants and presenters will be respectful of one another while asking questions and in conversation
- There are no "stupid" or "wrong" questions, but the questions must come from a genuine desire to learn.
- Presenters reserve the right to discontinue a conversation or decline to answer a question deemed inappropriate or disrespectful by the presenter.
- Participants can select and ask questions/prompts from the “question” jar if desired.
- Each presenter is expressing their own viewpoint and sharing about their own lived experience. No one member of a group can speak for all members of a group.
- Each group will have 15 minutes of conversation time with each presenter.
- Participants cannot record, videotape or take pictures of the presenters.
- Participants are not allowed to ask the presenters for personal contact information. All requests for further contact should be through the event organizers.
- Keep an open heart and mind, and have fun interviewing these interesting, innovative individuals!
