Gond Art: Stories in Dots and Lines

For ages 10+ and adults. Family Friendly! Registration is required. For the first week of registration, patrons from towns within 5 miles of Boxborough are prioritized.

This Gond art workshop offers participants a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of Gond painting, a vibrant, mythical, and intricate tribal art form originating from Madhya Pradesh, India. The workshop entails an overview of the origin, history, and the culture of the tribe through motifs and storytelling. Each attendee will create their own masterpiece.

About the Artist:

Sunanda Sahay, a long-time resident of Acton, has been practicing Mithila/Madhubani art for over two decades. Over the years, her artistic journey has expanded to include a variety of Indian folk and tribal art forms such as Kalamkari, Tanjore, Lippan, Warli, Gond, and more.

Sunanda’s dedication to preserving and promoting traditional Indian art has earned her numerous state and community grants and awards. Along with her students, she has showcased her work at art shows, workshops, and artist-in-residence programs across New England, including exhibitions at museums and community venues. Registration Cancellation Procedure

If you register for a program and are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 48 hours in advance. For emergencies, let the Library know as soon as possible.

Warnings will be issued for registrants who miss a program without advanced notice. On the third warning, the registrant will be suspended from program registration for 3 months.

Registered attendees who arrive to a program 10 minutes after the scheduled start time will forfeit their spot and it will be treated as an absence.

The Library has to take this action due to the high cost of programs, existing waitlists, and empty seats reserved for absent registrants. Your cooperation is appreciated.
