Learn to extend the life of your clothes by simple mending techniques with Deepika Prakash, founder of PatternReview.com. Hemming and mending are valuable skills that contribute to sustainable practices. Some knowledge of using a sewing machine may be required but not always necessary. The workshop will be limited to 15 people so we can learn effectively.

Closures – Learn to sew buttons, snaps, hooks and eyes
We all have those clothes, with a missing button, a broken hook or a snap and not sure how to fix them. Welcome to the August Repair and Renew workshop in which I will show you how to sew a button by hand and give a new life to all those clothes! Time permitting we will also sew some snaps and hooks and eyes.
Skill Level – Beginner. No prior knowledge of sewing is needed.
What to bring
- Garment which needs buttons/snaps/hooks etc.
- Small scissors
- Your reading glasses (if you use them)
We will provide
- Sample fabric if you don’t have a garment to practice sewing buttons on
- Thread
- Hand sewing needles
- Buttons, snaps , hooks and eyes.

Repair and Renew Sewing is a partnership between Sargent Memorial Library in Boxborough and Acton Memorial Library in Acton. We meet every month, but alternate locations between the libraries bi-monthly.
