Learn to extend the life of your clothes by simple mending techniques with Deepika Prakash, founder of PatternReview.com - an online sewing community. Deepika's mission is to empower her community by teaching valuable sewing skills that contribute to sustainable practices. Some knowledge of using a sewing machine may be required but not always necessary. For each workshop there will be a list of recommended materials for participants to bring, as well as what will be provided in class. The workshop will have limited seats so we can learn effectively.

Get to Know Your Sewing Machine
Learn the basics of using your sewing machine in this beginner-friendly workshop! We’ll cover identifying the different parts of your machine, threading the needle, winding the bobbin, and sewing simple straight stitches. Perfect for anyone just starting out or looking to build confidence with their machine. Bring your own sewing machine, and let’s take it step by step! A sewing machine in working order is required for this workshop.
Skill Level – Beginner. No sewing experience is required.
What to bring:
1. Your sewing machine and manual. Don't forget the foot pedal and electric cord.
2. Basic sewing supplies like thread and needles.
3. Small scissors
4. Scrap fabric to practice stitches on.
We will provide:
- Fabric if you don't have it
- Thread
- Iron and ironing board
- Some sewing supplies and machine needles if you don't have them handy.
